FTTX basics

The basic training course for infrastructure planners in fiber optic technology comprehensively prepares prospective specialists for their future work. This training course covers various key aspects, including the day-to-day work of an infrastructure planner, regulations and laws (including federal and state laws), road construction law in fiber optic network planning, network structures and technical principles, civil engineering methods and materials as well as the role of the planner in the process.

This training provides participants with a broad understanding of the various aspects of infrastructure planning in fiber optic technology and prepares them optimally for their future tasks.

Agenda

Topic 1: Planning basics

  • Definition of terms
  • Differences in grid infrastructures depending on the distribution technology
    • Point-to-Point, Point-to-Multipoint
    • Wavelength division multiplexing and other methods
    • Transmission length determination
  • Network structures (ring-star-tree structures), network infrastructure elements
  • Consideration of existing infrastructure
  • Explanation of the structure and objectives of the TKG (§125-135)
  • Reference to DIN 18220
  • Legal basis relevant to the topic / federal and state laws
  • Co-location agreement
  • Planning stage processes based on the HOAI
  • Rights of use in public space / private land
  • Nature conservation requirements, tree protection
  • Warranty, follow-up obligations and provision of security
  • What does the customer provide, what information is to be provided to whom
  • Digitized overall procedure
  • Reference to legal consequences (impact on tendering procedure and liability of the planner) in the further project planning and expansion procedure

Topic 2: Material and technology concept

  • Structure and contents of VDE 0800-720 “Guidelines and qualification samples for broadband
    – Part 720: Guideline on material requirements for FTTx broadband networks”
  • Explanation of the existing material concepts on the market
  • Structure and laying instructions, as well as data sheets for network elements
  • Incorporate or develop designation schemes for empty conduits, shafts, KVz, cables

Topic 3: Rough planning

  • Definition of areas, clusters with road overview according to socio-economic, technological and network-structural parameters, surface inspection or survey
  • Content of an example of a material, technology and network concept (PtP, PON, GPON, AON…) with a comparison of variants
  • Introduction to computer-aided planning: logic, handling, approaches, data organization, attributes, etc.

Topic 4: Agreement, characteristic values and cost calculation

  • Coordination with other trades
    (electricity, gas, drinking water, waste water and rainwater, district heating, LSA cables, telecommunications cables and pipes…)
  • Characteristic values of the network components and the expansion services
  • Rough cost estimate for materials and technology
  • Development of an offer plan
  • Handover to the customer

Topic 5: Evaluation and assessment of learning status and ability

  • Summary of the contents of topics 1 to 4
  • Assessment of learning status and ability
